Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious road traffic collision on the M6 motorway in County Galway, Ireland, which led to a temporary road closure and major traffic disruption.
The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, 28 September 2026, near Junction 14 heading westbound towards Ballinasloe, when a single-vehicle crash was reported on the busy motorway. Emergency services and Gardaí were quickly dispatched to the scene after motorists raised the alarm.
According to reports, the crash was described by witnesses as a “very bad accident,” prompting an immediate response from rescue teams. Traffic in both directions was brought to a standstill as emergency crews worked at the scene.
A woman was transported by ambulance to University Hospital Galway, while a man was taken to Portiuncula Hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí said the M6 westbound carriageway was temporarily closed between Junction 14 and Junction 15 while emergency responders managed the scene and carried out initial investigations.
Authorities later confirmed that the road was reopened after the incident was cleared, although traffic delays continued for some time as congestion eased.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, with Gardaí expected to review road conditions, vehicle condition, and witness accounts as part of their inquiries.
